Internal Family Systems
Internal Family Systems is a powerfully transformative, evidence-based model of psychotherapy. We believe there is naturally an internal family of parts and sub-personalities that together form our personality. They were formed by our unique experiences which include parts that hold our pain and parts that help manage our pain. Our core Self knows how to heal, so the parts can integrate into the wholesome and positive roles they were designed to fulfill.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is an evidence based therapy that is used to promote psychological healing from trauma. EMDR is a structured therapy that encourages the client to briefly focus on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotional intensity associated with the traumatic memories.
Effortless Mindfulness Consultation
Effortless Mindfulness is an ancient wisdom practice that integrates with contemporary neuroscience, psychology and spirituality. Effortless Mindfulness allows you to shift out of your small, chattering mind and into an already awake, compassionate mind, or what IFS would call Self. Combining both Effortless Mindfulness and Internal Family Systems Therapy is a powerful way to integrate inner healing and transformation.
A Christian is one who can see God everywhere, even in himself. Christian spirituality can be incorporated into the Internal Family Systems concept of Self. This spiritual concept of the Holy Spirit is a way to understand the presence of God from both an internal and external perspective.
I am an approved consultant for Internal Family Systems. I can provide consultation for therapists who have graduated from Level 1 training and are working toward certification. I can also provide consultation for mental health care providers who are interested in learning Internal Family Systems and want to apply aspects of the modality with their clients.
You are welcome here. There are parts of you that are angry, afraid, critical, sad, feeling alone and abandoned. Using the gentle and elegant approach of Internal Family Systems, your parts will be welcomed, witnessed and offered compassion and understanding. In this way, your hurting parts will be accepted and encouraged to release their pain and burdens in order to experience healing and transformation.
We use Effortless Mindfulness, as taught by Loch Kelly, as a way to connect with the IFS concept of Self. The glimpses in Effortless Mindfulness meditations can be seen as doors of connection to Awake Awareness or Self. We become aware of our already connected and compassionate Self through Awake Awareness.
Those who come from a Christian tradition know that wisdom, peace and compassion are qualities of being united with Christ or being led by the Holy Spirit. Our internal parts, who are hurting and carrying burdens, are approached with the compassion of the Comforter, the Holy Spirit. They are invited into an experience of healing and connection.
